Hampton School Board Approves Alternative Calendar

The Hampton School Board approved the year-round, or alternate, school calendar for the

2024-2025 school year. The alternate calendar was recommended by Hampton Superintendent Matt Scarbrough. The other calendar option was a four-day week.

The meeting opened with students Addison Nix leading the prayer and Crystal Cagle leading the Pledge of Allegiance.

Superintendent Scarbrough told the school board the career fair at the school was a 'huge success'. The fair was for 10th through 12th grade students. Regional businesses, tech schools, and college attended the fair to provide information for students.

The school board approved a resolution for ABC Preschool to open a second preschool class. The South Central Service Cooperative would take over the classes.

The school board reviewed the master plan for the school. A structural engineer inspected the elementary building and found structural damage at the elementary office. Office personnel were moved out and the office was closed off.

Hampton Elementary Principal Tom Sawyer and Hampton High School Principal Bryan Sanders presented their student discipline reports to the school board. Sawyer reported that 40 percent of the discipline came from incidents at the playground. Sanders reported

58 students had office discipline referrals.

'The district is blessed to work with a good group of kids,' said Superintendent Scarbrough.

The school board approved the updated per diam rates. They also approved personnel policy regarding maternity leave for certified and classified personnel.
