The School Board started early (5:30 p.m.) in an attempt to handle executive meetings items with out having the public wait during the regular time. They will go back to the regular schedule next meeting.
As each meeting opens, students lead in the prayer and Pledge of Allegiance. The pray was led by Gracey Crawford and the pledge by Kinsely Nations, both pictured above. Following the prayer and pledge each meeting is a highlight of a school activity or group. This month a report of those attending Space Camp was given by Tom Sawyer and a few of the students attending.
The meeting included several key items not least was an effort to increase test scores through small group testing. The results will be in later after all testing and grading is complete.
The salary schedule for teachers was set and a $1 an hour raise was given to all classified employees. The Board adopted the School Eats program associated with Compass Food for the new school year and will come with a culinary chef. The meal price will also increase by $.25. The move will leverage the quantity and quality of the larger company providing better quality and more varitey in the menu.
Other items include plans for a new office building renovating and existing building and redesigning the elementary offices for better usage of space.
In personnel, Jana Young will be taking the Superintendent position in Parkers Chapel. The vacancy is being filed by shifting others to positions and adjusting jobs. While not all positions are filled some changes include: Byran Sanders will be director of student services and Tom Sawyer will take on student programs, some of what Young was handling. Tammy Sanders will also be taking on the special education supervisor and part time speech therapist. Other adjustments could be in the works.
The Co-op will now be developing the preschool program and possibly adding another class.
Reminder: The new school year calendar will begin this year and starts July 25, with staff development days beginning on July 22.
The 20204 Senior Graduation is set for May 17. All teachers and board members are expected to attend, as well as all of the Seniors.
