Once it was deplorable, now it's weird. That is the current labeling for political conservatives. I'm not sure what is meant or the motive behind the label but I just want to put out there for an alternative, some other options for weirdness.
The first definition of the adjective weird is 'of strange or extraordinary character.' Let's run with that.
It may be considered weird if I don't drink (alcohol), use a tobacco product, or speak with words considered profane, especially in south Arkansas. Maybe, that would be in the 'extraordinary' category and the ones that do drink, smoke/dip/chew, and cuss are in the normal category.
So, what gives one to view another as 'weird' anyway? Obviously, it's when they are not like me, or the majority of others I know or closely associate with. They need to just look different, dress different, or act different and they can be considered 'weird.' I have seen some weird people in my time and some have even become friends. Weird is something or someone I haven't figured out yet. We all have seen some weird insects, animals and fish. That doesn't make them less of what they are, just weird to us.
Ok, so being weird may not be a bad thing, just something not completely understood. We all could fall into that category...
