The Hampton Lady Bulldogs basketball team won the 2024 Dermott Thanksgiving Tournament over the weekend. Two hard-fought games captured the trophy for the Lady Bulldogs. In their first game, the Crossett Eagles stormed out to a 13-point halftime lead. However, Hampton tied the game by the start of the fourth quarter and thanks to some late game heroics, they took the win 49-47. The championship game was played against the hosting Dermott Rams. Hampton opened the game with a 16 to nothing lead but Dermott fought hard the rest of the way. Hampton was able to close out the tournament championship with a 40-25 win.
Jakayla Stephens was named the MVP of the tournament. The talented 6’1 center averaged 12 points in the two game run, on top of stellar defense. Laney Pennington chipped in 11 points per game, and Alaijah Stephens helped carry the load with 8 points per game. The Lady Bulldogs have opened the season 6-1 and look to continue their hot start leading into conference play.
