County Agricultural Agent, Shaney Hill, will be working with producers Wade and Keith Nutt at Woody’s Peach Orchard to monitor San Jose scale. San Jose scale is a major pest of various fruit trees. San Jose scale causes conspicuous red spots on peaches and apples.
San Jose scale pheromone traps will be used to monitor and detect male San Jose scale on peach trees in the orchard. They will be monitored 2x per week to collect data. When and if the males are located, we will apply black electrical tape and double-sided tape to limbs to monitor crawler activity.
Monitoring these activities will indicate when the producer needs to spray for San Jose scale pest.
