Post frontal windy conditions did not stop junior 4-H members Jayden Rushing and Cy Ables from catching fish at the 3rd stop of the Arkansas Youth Bass Nation Southern Region event on Lake Greeson this past weekend. Jayden and Cy started the morning out slow but found themselves within the 5-bass limit close to weigh-in time. “They fought hard and never gave up. Once we figured the bite out, it was just a matter of time before they found that 5th bass to fill out a tournament limit,” stated Coach and CEA-Staff Chair Jaret Rushing.
Cy started the day off by catching the team’s largest bass at 1.29 lbs around 10:00 a.m. They both alternated fish catches after that and Jayden finished off the limit at 2:15 p.m. with a bass that weighed ~1.20 lbs to give the boys around 5 lbs total. Time would play in their favor as Jayden was able to catch one last fish to cull out a smaller fish and increase their total weight to 5.24 lbs and secure the win against several other junior teams from across Arkansas. Their next tournament is slated for April 2nd at Lake Millwood to qualify for the State Championship in May.
