Julia Garland McManus Freeman, 81 of Thornton died Friday March 17, 2023. Born September 3, 1941 at Fordyce, she was a daughter of the late Roy McManus and Lorene Murry McManus.

Julia Garland McManus Freeman, 81 of Thornton died Friday March 17, 2023. Born September 3, 1941 at Fordyce, she was a daughter of the late Roy McManus and Lorene Murry McManus.

She was a member of Thornton First Baptist Church, where she played the piano, led music, taught Sunday School and was the clerk. She was a school teacher for 35 years, teaching at Carthage, Kingsland, Thornton, and Bearden.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dale Freeman; a sister, Johnnie McManus, a brother, Bobby McManus. Survivors are her son, Murry Freeman and his wife Charlene of Rison; two grandchildren, Molly Freeman of Rison and Walt Freeman and his wife Brittany of Monticello; two great-grandchildren, Caleb and Creed of Monticello; sister-in-law Lucille Palmer of Fordyce and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family will receive friends 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at Calaway Cemetery with graveside services following at 11:00 a.m. at the cemetery, with Rev. Bobby George officiating. Arrangements are by Benton Funeral home of Fordyce. To sign the online register visit www. bentonfuneralhome. net.
