TALES FROM THE SHIRE

HIRE

I need to get rid of four mugs because I got four cute ones to match my new (less than a year old) kitchen decor and I’m trying to do the “if you bring something new in the house you have to get rid of an equal amount of the old” strategy. Key word “trying”.

The four new cups are so cute that I want to display them. I was in the big city and a noticed big store with all kinds of household things was selling out. I thought maybe there I could find a deal on a nice mug tree, or the perfect wall hanger or, some pretty hooks. No luck.

At least no luck on the mug holders. There were other deals. I’m now the proud owner of a new comforter, a duvet cover, some pillow protectors, a box of slip proof clothes hangers, a fleece throw for the living room, a neck massager, two sets of Egyptian cotton sheets, and one set of flannel sheets. Plus a few toiletry items. some tongs, and an insulated lunch bag. All practical things. Yes, very practical.

So practical that a few days later I went back. There was a serious deal on one of those six block storage shelves and I had just the place for it… and I’ve learned at clearance sales that if you even think you want something, you had better put it in your buggy. So I did. But after strolling about a while, I thought a second one might be a good idea. Too late. That’s probably a good thing.

Now if I can find a black or silver mug tree somewhere on sale… ——— It’s busy these days teaching a summer course, going to a church convention, getting a dental cleaning, scheduling a regular health checkup, doing spring cleaning quite late, and attending a birthday party out of town. At this rate I’ll have to take days off to rest from my vacation!

——— Speaking of vacation. There are SO many cool places for a day trip or weekend getaway in Arkansas.

I’d like to recommend a few throughout this summer.

If you get up to the Little Rock area, Pinnacle Mountain State Park has 10 hiking trails including a half-mile paved loop to a connection to the 222 mile Ouachita National trail that goes into Oklahoma. You can hike the Base Trail or choose west or east sides to go up the mountain.

You can cool off after the hike at the visitor center and look out a balcony across a beautiful view of the Maumelle and Arkansas Rivers. It’s worth the stop to see the stuffed alligator! Naturally, fishing and canoeing are part of the opportunities there.

The park also offers stargazing parties and various interpreting programs throughout the year. The best way to find out more is by simply internet searching “Pinnacle Mountain State Park”.

It’s one of my favorite spots because I hiked and climbed there before it was a park!

There’s your free advice for the week!
