U.S. Rep. Bruce Westerman
As we gather with family and friends for Independence Day, it’s hard to ignore that Americans across the country are still dealing with the reality of record-high prices. The American Farm Bureau Federation reported this week that prices for groceries are still significantly higher than two years ago. No thanks to record-high inflation and wasteful government spending, the cost of food for a July 4th cookout this year will cost Americans 14% higher than in 2021.
Ahead of the holiday weekend, President Biden is trying to sell his economic agenda as “Bidenomics,” and touting it as a success. I’ ll say this: no one is buying Bidenomics. Why? Because no one can afford it. According to a study done by CNBC earlier this year, 70% of Americans are feeling financially stressed, and 58% are living paycheck to paycheck. I don’t understand how President Biden can grandstand on his economic agenda, all while hardworking Americans are still struggling to make ends meet. Anyone who has visited a grocery store in the past two years can tell you that the Biden Administration’s economic policies are not working.
I’m committed to working with my colleagues to put our economy back on the right track and reduce costs for Americans. Through legislation like the Fiscal Responsibility Act and the Lower Energy Costs Act, we are working to curb government spending that’s growing our national debt, create good-paying jobs, and bring stability back to the economy through pro-growth tax and deregulatory policies.
Now more than ever, I am thankful for those remaining committed to upholding patriotism and American value as we continue to get our country back on the right fiscal trajectory. From my family to yours, I wish you a blessed and safe Independence Day. We are very fortunate to live in the land of the free, where we can work together toward a better future for our nation—Happy 4th of July.
