Alvernia “Vernie” Buck Rogers

of St. John’s Place in Fordyce, formerly of Hampton, passed away Saturday, September 2nd at the age of 97. She was born January 5, 1926 to the late Robert “Ed” and Hettie Gilbert Buck. She was a member of Campground Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Hampton.

She is preceded in death by her husband, R.C. Rogers, her brothers, Edward and B.J. Buck, and her sisters, Lorene Clemons, Wilma Strickland, and Genie Steelman.

She is survived by her four children: Ellon Cockrill of Little Rock, Eddie Rogers of Texas, Susie Riddle of Auburn, Alabama, and Hettie Nutt (Tony) of Fordyce; 7 grandchildren: Amber Rogers, Ross Rogers (Amy), Ashley Ernemann (Andrew), Rogers T. Cockrill (Jenny), Jenny Robinson (Michael), Kristen Brandon (Brady), and Lance Nutt (Tiffany).

She is also survived by 15 great grandchildren: Kayleigh Rogers, Ross, Austin, and Tyler Rogers, Tillar and Cornell Ernemann, Georgia Cockrill, Madden, Myles, Emery, and Eden Robinson, Lucy and Lottie Brandon, Emma and Henry Nutt, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

A visitation will be Wednesday from 10AM till 11AM at New Hope Cemetery (Hwy 274) near Hampton. A graveside service will follow at 11AM with Rev. Rickey Smith and Rev. Garland Skidmore officiating.
