Calhoun County Assessor, Teresa Carter, announced that Kinley Shankles of Fordyce is the 2022-23 recipient of the seventeenth annual Borden-McClendon Scholarship.

Calhoun County Assessor, Teresa Carter, announced that Kinley Shankles of Fordyce is the 2022-23 recipient of the seventeenth annual Borden-McClendon Scholarship.

The Borden-McClendon Scholarship is a $1,000 scholarship given away each year by the Arkansas Assessor's Association to an employee, child of an employee, grandchild or great grandchild of an assessor's office employee in the State of Arkansas. The Scholarship was started in 2006 and honors two innovative Assessors; the late Edgar Borden of St. Francis County and the late Johnny McClendon of Lee County. Since 2006, the Arkansas Assessor's Association has given $17,000 to fund this scholarship.

Kinley is the step granddaughter of Teresa Carter, who is the Assessor for Calhoun County and has held the position since 2001.

Kinley will be attending Southern Arkansas University Magnolia. She will be majoring in Communications for Science of Arts and is a SAU cheerleader. Kinley is the daughter of Cody and Carrie Shankles of Fordyce.
