Blessings were showered upon our little community last Saturday at the Hampton High School gym. A large variety of items were given away to those who needed or wanted them. There were clothing for men, women, boys, girls, and infants.
There were shoes, shoes, and more shoes! There was furniture galore: sofas and chairs, a bed, dinette sets with the china already on the table, television and TV stands, refrigerator, and comforters. Other items included a washer and dryer, golf clubs, vacuum cleaners, pots and pans, cleaning products, toys, art pictures. Everything was free!
We are very grateful to Ms. Virginia Valentine, founder of 'Angels Serving with a Purpose' and her team of volunteers who traveled from Houston, Texas to Arkansas to bless our community. Her family roots run deep in Hampton. Her parents and grandparents were raised here. She has cousins and friends here. This is home and because of that, her vision was to come home and give back to this community. She did just that! There were approximately 300 people who were blessed by attending this Giveaway.
The volunteers from Houston, Texas included Sylvia Samuel, Gloria Bogan, John Tipton, Rachel Ferrel, Regal Daugherty, Lillie Daugherty, Carolyn Daugherty, Ivary Daugherty and Virginia Daugherty Valentine (Founder). Other out of state volunteers included Kenneth Phillips of Mississippi, formerly of Hampton and Douglas and Barbara Thomas of Rochester, New York who have roots in this community.
A huge 'thank you' goes out to the Arkansas volunteers Friday evening and night who helped sort through clothing, unpack boxes, put beds together, and assemble tables, etc. These same volunteers showed back up on Saturday to help with the Giveaway. They were truly God sent. Some volunteers donated water and sodas. Those volunteering from Hampton were Moses Sullivan, Joyce Thompson, Tanya Lewis, Edward Lewis, Betty Roetzel, Roberta Childress, Tiffany Parker, Greg Thompson, Ivory Randall, Andrew, Matthew and Lillie Randall.
Our own Mortuary BBQ was on hand to feed everyone who wanted hot dogs or hamburgers. They were a blessing to hungry shoppers. Thank you guys so much!
We want thank the superintendent of Hampton Schools, Matt Scarbrough, for the use of the gym. We thank him for his listening ear, his encouraging words, his enthusiastic attitude and his help in getting the word out regarding the Giveaway. He was instrumental in the success of this endeavor!
