The Hampton School Board discussed the school calendar changes at their meeting on Tuesday. Hampton School staff and students were surveyed whether they prefer the four-day school week or an alternate calendar.

Hampton Superintendent Matt Scarbrough reported 60 staff members were surveyed. Most of those surveyed said they preferred the alternate calendar than the fourday week. There were 89 students who responded to the survey and a majority of them preferred the four-day week. Superintendent Scarbrough said the calender survey would be sent to business leaders and those in the community to get more feedback.

Superintendent Scarbrough said student tardiness was an issue in the district. He said they will work on fixing the issue.

'It's important to be here,' said Superintendent Scarbrough.

He gave the school board a copy of the superintendent contract for them to choose to renew or not renew his contract in January. Through the LEARNS Act, there are new targets and goals that have to be met.

The school principals and administration staff will be evaluated in February. The district faculty and staff will be evaluated in March. The superintendent commented they wanted to get it done early so they can plan ahead.

The next regular board meeting will be at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, January 16 at the Hampton High School Library.
