Multiple Agencies Work Accident

Four o’clock Saturday afternoon the Hampton Fire Department, Calhoun County Sheriff’s Department, City of Hampton Police, Blann Tractor, State Police, ProMed Ambulance, County Rescue Unit and Life Flight all worked together to save the driver after running into the back of a tractor trailer hauling farm equipment. Experience, professionalism, training, patience and determination brought the situation to a successful rescue. Official report unavailable at time of printing.

The new year brought new faces to the Hampton City Council. The first meeting of 2023 included and Ordinance (2023-1), a Resolution (2023-1), discussion of salary percentage disparages by a city employee and citizens request for reimbursement for tire damage incurred during the heavy rain due to road damage.

Celebrating Calhoun County Cohorts

Judge Hamilton H. Singleton swore in his final group of officials after 28 years of serving as Circuit Judge. His last act before retiring as Judge was to swear in David Graham as his replacement. The following were sworn in for Calhoun County, City of Hampton and the City of Thornton: Judge Floyd Nutt; Sheriff Vernon Morris; County Clerk Jeanie Smith; Treasure Jennifer Beene; Coroner Donna Steelman; Hampton Mayor Rick Shirron; Hampton Alderman Nikki Powers; Thornton Alderman Larry Williams and Robin Stringfellow; Constable David Smith, Leland Gilliam, John E. Green, and Burleigh Williams; Deputy Sheriff Philip Evertte, Corey Johnson, Adam McGilton, Leland Gilliam, John Henry Thompson and David Estes; and Justice of the Peace Tommy Stringfellow, Cody Vaughan, David Reddin, Jay Scarlett, Keith Gresham, Mark Hornaday, John Beasley, and Kenny Evans.

Water Break Extends Christmas Break

On December 24, a copper pipe separated and started a downpour from the ceiling in the East hallway of the High School. This went on for 36 hours. School not being in session for Christmas break so there was no way of discovering the problem. Until, oddly enough, the fire alarm in the middle school building started to go off. A nearby neighbors called the fire department and drew attention to the on-going problem. The School then got repair plans together and started fixing the damages. This resulted in two AMI days for k-12 students.

Methodist Churches in Calhoun County
Methodist Churches in Calhoun County

A number of Methodist churches have been active in Calhoun County over the years. The early churches in the county were Methodist Episcopal, South churches. In 1939, the Methodist Episcopal Church, the Methodist Episcopal Church, South, and the Methodist Protestant Church united to form the Methodist Church. In 1968, the Methodist Church and the Evangelical United Brethren Church combined to form the United Methodist Church. the following are some of the early Methodist Churches in the County. If anyone has information on the history of these or other churches, the Calhoun County Museum would like to have copies or originals of any documents or pictures.
