“Don’t let people put obstacles in front of you, but understand you also have to put in the work” were the words of engineer Raye Jean Montague as recalled by her son. Montague overcame the limitations of technology, the pressures of overwhelming hours, and the obstacles of prejudice to produce one of the major engineering breakthroughs of the time – the production of the first naval vessel designed entirely by computer. Her work brought computers to a new level of use and kept the U. S. Navy on the cutting edge of technology.

Calhoun County Extension Homemakers Clubs Now Recruiting Members

The Calhoun County EH clubs are reorganizing and seeking new members. The purpose of these clubs are to give an opportunity to participate in the educational programs of the University of Arkansas Cooperative Extension Service. Members in EH clubs will have the opportunity to continuing education, strengthening individuals and families; developing personal skills. Members have an opportunity to develop leadership abilities through service as a club officer, serve on a club committee, or by leading club programs and community improvement projects. The following is a list of the Calhoun County EH clubs, where and when they meet:

How many of you enjoyed the beautiful weather this past weekend? Wasn’t it wonderful!? It was a certain reminder that Spring is on its way. My husband got our potatoes planted and I started seeds for herbs and marigolds. Besides gardening, Spring time and warmer weather gets me excited about firing up the grill. There is something about being outside while the grill is smoking, kids are playing, seeing the blooms and buds of all the green waking up from winter’s nap.
