Local Students Nominated to Attend Arkansas Boys State 2024

LITTLE ROCK, AR (04/30/2024)-- More than 565 of the state’s brightest young men will attend Arkansas Boys State, an immersive leadership and civic engagement experience sponsored by the American Legion. This summer’s 83rd annual session runs May 26 through May 31 at the University of Central Arkansas in Conway.

Meda “Bitsy” Jones,

age 86 of Hampton died Saturday, April 20, 2024 at her home. She was born November 4, 1937 in Clyde, TX. Shewasaretiredsales associate for Wal Mart in El Dorado. She is preceded in death by her parents, W.P. West and Meda Havens West; husband, James Newton Jones; grandson, Justin Jones; great granddaughters, Lillie Johnson and Stella Rae Lott. Bitsy is survived by three sons, Doug Jones of Hampton, Mike Jones of El Dorado, Lowell Jones of Hampton; two daughters, Beth (Charles) Lott of Bristow, Ok, Betty Jones of Hampton; sisterin- law, Clarice West of Ore City, TX; nine grandchildren, Jamie Jones Bonnette, Chelsea Fosmire, Cody Lott, Matthew Lott, Stephanie Pruitt, Jennifer Johnson, Preston Jones, Brittany King, Maddison Jones; fourteen great grandchildren; and four great great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Ann Strickland

was born on December 20, 1945. She grew up in Hampton, AR just across the highway from the young man she would share her entire life with. She married Harold Strickland on September 11, 1965. They lived out their vows of love in sickness and health until death parted them with her passing on April 10, 2024.
