The 9th Annual Calhoun County Christmas Parade Committee is pleased to announce that the parade will be held on December 14, 2023 at 6:00 PM. We are inviting all businesses, churches, schools or civic or social groups to participate this year. Let’s make it fun and festive. Please see the Entry Form in this newspaper or contact Mrs. Lillie Randall, the committee chairperson, at 870-798-2150 for a form.

This year the school board, rather the Superintendent Matt Scarbrough, has given students the privilege of leading the Pledge of Allegiance and opening prayer at eh meeting. They are chosen from both the high school and elementary school.

LITTLE ROCK AIR FORCE BASE, ARK. – Thunder Over the Rock, Little Rock AFB’s first air show since 2018 is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 21 and Sunday, Oct. 22. Admission and parking for the air show are free. The main gate opens at 8:00 a.m. to the general public and closes at 5:00 p.m.

Homecoming 2023

Today, we’re diving into a delicious and nutritious dish that combines the creamy comfort of macaroni and cheese with the natural sweetness of butternut squash.

Point Chicot, a boat landing on the Mississippi River in what is now Chicot County was named either by men going up and down the river or by eighteenth-century French colonists in the area. Chicot means stumpy or knobby, and the area was given the name due to the many Cypress trees growing there.

Pep Rally Fun!

The Calhoun County Farm Bureau held its annual meeting on Thursday, September 21. With over 25 in attendance, the organization reviewed activities for the previous year, appointed board members and officers for the next year, and Austin Lester from the State Office explained ’What Farm Bureau is’ to the group. Hampton FFA officers attended the meeting as guest speakers. Chapter President Sara Avant spoke to the group about all the activities that they have been involved in and upcoming events and contests. The September Student of the Month was announced: Claire Beaver.
