Two 'Greatest Generation' Battleship Gunners from WWII at Veterans Day Observance

H. P. Rowen (Left) served on the USS West Virginia and Dusty Lansdale (Right) served on the USS Maryland. Both battleships survived the Japanese attack at Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, and exacted a terrible revenge on the Japanese Navy. Both veterans were gunners on the legendary 16 inch main guns of those historic battleships. They are the two oldest veterans in the county.

Bear Give Away for Children

Hampton/Faustina United Methodist Churches presented over 50 Cuddly Teddy Bears on November 14, 2023 to the Law Enforcement and Ambulances in Calhoun County. Each agency, Hampton City Police, Calhoun County Sheriff’s office, Arkansas State Troopers, Arkansas Highway Police and Pro-Med Ambulance Service were presented 10 bears each for children they encounter to give them comfort.

U.S. Representative Report

The U.S. House of Representatives is back in business. In just three days, we passed appropriations legislation to fund the legislative branch and the Department of the Interior and provide military assistance to Israel, all while reining in reckless government spending and bureaucracy. When the phrase, “power of the purse,” is invoked, the appropriations process is where Congress, and especially the House, has an opportunity to exercise that power.
